AP Art: New Library Sign

After the AP Art exam was finished, the AP Art class began a project to improve and redesign the Library sign.  Different variations were discussed and ideas were manipulated using Adobe Illustrator. The final design was decided by the students and Mrs. Clouser, the Librarian.

Celebration of the Arts Season

On May 12, the Elementary School (Pre-K - 5 grade) had their Celebration, which incorporated wonderful art, music and dance performances! This coming week on May 26, the Upper School (6-12 grades) will have their Celebration! Come and support the wonderful work all of the Art students have made over the past semester.  They deserve lots of applause!

AP Art: Paris Field Trip

On the night of April 14th, ISO's AP Art students were off on an artistic adventure exploring the City of Lights! Paris is one of the most artistic cities in the world and houses some of the most precious pieces of artwork ever made. From the gigantic Louvre to the intimate l'Orangerie, it was splendid walking down the numerous corridors of artwork. Art was hanging there for us to approach and experience at our will - it was fantastic! Springtime in Paris is paradise!

MS Art: Murals Project

Keith Haring was an American artist living and working during the 1980s. His artwork is characterized by bright colors, simple figures, and bold lines.  Haring's artwork was an obvious extension of who he was; his art explored his love for people in need, especially children, his sexual orientation and his illness (HIV/AIDS). Haring made the pretentious art world accessible by opening up his Pop Shop, which allowed anyone to purchase his artwork on t-shirts, bags, pins, etc. Many art critics disliked the idea that his artwork was inclusive, yet that was exactly the point! Haring died due to AIDS related complications in 1990.

The MS Art class used Keith Haring as inspiration for the Murals Project. The murals are located on the back and side of the Pre-K room.

HS Art: The Surreal Life

The High School Art class has been immersed in learning about Surrealism. Surrealism was an art movement that took place primarily during the 1930s; it focused on exploring one's inner self and subconscious. Salvador Dali is the most recognizable artist of this movement, but other well-known artists such as Rene Magritte, Frida Kahlo, Joan Miro, and Meret Oppenheim were also involved.

As 4th Quarter begins, the AP Art students are hard at work finalizing their portfolios for submission.  The AP Art portfolio is due on Friday, May 6, 2011.
